The inheritance of immunity to pea mosaic virus

Abstract

F1, F2, F3, and backcross data from pea crosses between two mosaic-susceptible varieties and two immune varieties indicate that the immune condition is controlled by a single recessive gene, with the proposed designation mo.There is evidence from these data, and a further test of F1, to suggest that the susceptible heterozygote can be separated from the homozygote (mo mo) by: (i) Timing of the appearance of the mosaic symptom after inoculation; (ii) The type of symptom, three being described. The latter, however, appears to depend on the variety, or the parentage in the case of crosses, and the strain or isolate of the virus. These differential susceptibilities are discussed.
