Abstract

A cationic tri-nuclear iron(iii) complex and an anionic di-nuclear lanthanum(iii) complex assemble to form a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded supramolecular 3d-4f network [Fe33-O)(μ-O2CtBu)6(im)3]2[La2(μ-O2CtBu)4(η-O2CtBu)4]·2C2H5OH (im = imidazole).

[14]   The [Fe3O(O2CtBu)6(H2O)3]O2CtBu was prepared by a slight modification of the literature method A. S. Batsanov, Y. T. Struchkov, G. A. Timko, Koord. Khim. 1988, 14, 266: A slurry of [Fe(NO3)3]·9H2O (10.0 g, 24.8 mmol) and HO2CtBu (28.0 g, 274.0 mmol) was heated and maintained at reflux over 2 h until the elimination of NO2 stopped. Upon cooling to 100°C, ethanol (85 mL) and water (15 mL) were added slowly under stirring. Overnight, red-brown hexagonal prisms were formed, filtered off, and recrystallized from a mixture of ethanol (50 mL) and water (10 mL). After 4 days the microcrystalline product was filtered off and washed with benzene and hexane and dried in vacuum leading to solvent-free [Fe3O(O2CtBu)6(H2O)3]O2CtBu.
