Some Studies in Inorganic Complexes. X. Cadmium and Indium with 2-Picolylamine

Abstract

Colourless or very pale yellow complexes of the type Cdpic₂X₂, Cdpic₃(ClO₄)₂, Inpic₃X₃, and Inpic₂X₃ have been prepared and studied, pic being the ligand 2-picolylamine and X halogen. The cadmium complexes are stable in water, in which they may be prepared and in which they react as bi-univalent electrolytes, whereas the iodide Cdpic₂I₂, having a very low conductance in nitromethane, has a 6-coordinate octahedral structure. The indium complexes Inpic₃X₃ may be prepared in ethanol, whilst the Inpic₂X₃ complexes are obtained by pyrolysis of the latter. Conductance measurements of the iodides Inpic₃I₃ and Inpic₂I₃, as well as those of ethylenediamine Inen₃I₃ and Inen₂I₃, in nitromethane show that in all cases a 6-coordinate structure is maintained. All the indium picolylamine complexes hydrolyse in water.
