Nitration of the methoxynaphthalenes

Abstract

The isomer distributions and the rates relative to naphthalene have been determined using gas chromatography for the nitration of 1- and 2-methoxynaphthalenes. The derived partial rate factors are discussed in terms of the methoxy-substituent effect and possible reagents effective in nitration.
