The rates of solvent aquation of a series of halogeno-cobalt(III) complexes

Abstract

The rates of aquation and temperature coefficients of a series of homoisomeric cations ω-[CoX en dien]²⁺ (X = Cl, Br, I) together with those of the isomer ε-[CoCl en dien]²⁺ and the analogous cation [CoCl ibn cytam]²⁺ are recorded. A consideration of the factors determining the rates of these reactions leads to the conclusion that there is an element of bond making in the transition state.
