Depsidone synthesis. X. Methoxy- and Hydroxy-colensoic acids

Abstract

The synthesis of the lichen depsidones 8-hydroxy-3,4-dimethoxy-11-oxo- 1,6-dipenty1-11H-di-benzo[b,e][1,4]dioxepin-7-carboxylic acid (methoxycolensoic acid) (1) and 4,8-dihydroxy-3-methoxy-11-oxo-1,6- dipentyl-11H-dibenzo[b,e][1,4]dioxepin-7-carboxylic acid (hydroxycolensoic acid) (2) is described. An abortive attempt to synthesize depsidones of the lobaric acid-type is also reported.
