Lichens and fungi. XV. Revised structures for hopane triterpenoids isolated from the lichen Pseudocyphellaria mougeotiana

Abstract

The hopane triterpenoid in the extractives from P. mougeotiana, reported in Part VII1 of this series as hopane-6α,7α,22-triol, is now shown to be hopane-6α,7β,22-triol (1j). There is a consequential revision of the two triol diacetate structures to hopane-6α,7β,22-triol 7-acetate (1i) and hopane-6α,7β,22-trio1 7-acetate (1h). In addition the diol reported as hopane-11β,22-diol has now been shown to be a mixture of hopane-7β,22-diol (1b) and hopane-15α,22-diol (1e). Hopane- 7β,22-diol 7-acetate (1f) and hopane-15α,22-diol 15-acetate (1g) have also been identified in the extractives.
