Abstract
The synthetic strategy required for the development of a radioimmunoassay for the hormone melatonin* is discussed. A facile entry into the N-(1-carboxyalkyl)melatonins (9), (10), (11) is described. The utility of these compounds as versatile haptens for the synthesis of melatonin antigens (12), (13), (14) is demonstrated.
