The Total Synthesis of Sinularene, a Sesquiterpene Hydrocarbon from the Soft Coral Sinularia mayi

Abstract

The sesquiterpene (±)-sinularene (exo-5-isopropyl-2-methyl-7-methylenetricyco[4,4,0,0^2,8]decane) has been synthesised by a 15-step sequence starting with anti-7-methylbicyclo[2,2,1]heptane-syn- 7, exo-2-carbolactone.
