Abstract

The cadmium-111 and cadmium-113 n.m.r. spectra of the complexes (Nbu4)2CdX4 (X = Cl, Br, I) have been observed in dichloromethane solution. Cadmium n.m.r. spectra were observed for mixtures of pairs of these anions, and at low temperatures the mixed halo complexes were observed in the statistical distribution. An equimolar mixture of all three halo anions gave all 15 possible mixed halo species in the statistical distribution at -80°C.

Mercury-199 n.m.r. spectra of (NBu4)2HgX4 were observed. Mixed halide complexes were difficult to observe because of low solubility at low temperatures, but they were detected in mixtures containing HgBr42-.
