Fused heterocycles from pyrrolethiols

Abstract

Pyrrolethiols are highly reactive bidentate nucleophiles which give a wide variety of fused heterocyclic ring systems on reaction with acylating and alkylating agents via S-substituted intermediates that are in most instances themselves isolable. Representative syntheses of thieno[2,3-b]pyrroles, pyrrolo-[1,2-b]thiazoles, thiopyrano[2,3-c]pyrrol-4(6H)-ones and thiopyranopyrrole salts are described.
