Abstract

All known breedlng sites of Black-bsowed Diomedea melanophrys and Grey-headed D. chrysostoma Albatrosses are listed and, where available, estimates of breeding pspulations given. The largest numbers of melanophrys nest in the Falkland Islands and of chrysostoma at South Georgia. In spite of its circumpolar range, melanophrys is mainly a bird of the southern Atlantic Ocean with subsidiary populations elsewhere and to a lesser degree the same may be said of chrysostoma. Oceanic observations have nowhere been consistent enough, widespread enough nor adequately distributed throughout the year to permit more than broad generalizations on limits of range.
