Validity of the Structure Factor Formalism

Abstract

Where density ftuctuations in a crystal are very large as a result of proximity to a structural phase transition, contnbutions to the diffraction data associated with critical scattering (CRS) can make it difficult to determine the average structure with any great precision. This matter is discussed on the basis of the structure factor formalism.
