Professor Gary Day

Professor Gary Day is a senior healthcare executive with over 28 years experience as a Consultant, Project Manager, Director, and Chief Executive Officer as well as an academic, researcher and author. Gary has worked in both the for-profit and not-for-profit health care sectors across three Australian States as well as the higher education sector including experienced project lead roles in major infrastructure and change management, and organisation-wide roles in workforce development and learning, clinical and medical education. Gary has played a pivotal role in the development and delivery of an innovative approach to develop leadership capacity and culture change among middle and executive-level health service managers across two states.

From 2007-2010, Gary completed his doctoral studies investigating morale amongst the Registered Nurse Workforce in Queensland. Gary’s other research interests include healthcare bureaucracies and complexity theory; organisational resilience in healthcare organisations; work values, organisational commitment and job involvement of healthcare workers; and developing leadership capacity and transformational learning. Gary has published numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed research articles. He has spoken at numerous national and international conferences and has undertaken health policy and systems consultancies in Australia, Viet Nam and China.
