This BTF is intended to supplement and expand the information given in AS 1428–1998 ‘Design for Access and Mobility’, Part 1 ‘General Requirements for Access – New Building Work’, and to give general guidance on access. The material in AS 1428.1 is incorporated in the Building Code of Australia. These criteria apply to the design of buildings and alteration work to existing buildings, and the detail of the exterior environment such as pavings, parking spaces and kerb ramps. The design of kerb ramps is a crucial determinant of barrier-free access. The on-site installation of kerb ramps is equally important if they are to be fully usable as intended. + Full description
