Poisonous to Pets

Paperback - March 2011 - AU $39.95

The must-have guide to toxic plants for dog and cat owners.

Poisonous to Pets is vital to anyone who owns a dog or cat – it could save their pet's life. This highly illustrated, full-colour book allows rapid access to visual and written information about plants that are poisonous to cats and dogs. It enables owners to identify the dangerous plant and know what to do if their pet is poisoned. + Full description

The book outlines potential toxicity to pets by categorising the plants into four levels, with each toxic level identified by colours found on the edge of each page. However, prevention is better than cure, and the information in this book also helps pet owners and garden designers 'poison proof' the home and garden.

Each plant description includes: botanical name, common name, scientific plant family, signs of toxicity in the animal, the first point of call for treatment, a brief description of the plant, geographic location, plant habitat, toxic parts, how poisoning occurs and toxic principles.

Reviews

"Since acquiring this book, I have found it to be very useful in the clinical setting to show owners clear images of plants suspected to have caused their pets' problems. In fact, the photographs are excellent and make the book worth having on the clinic bookshelf for that reason alone. It would also be a worthwhile investment for the clinic waiting room as it makes quite an interesting browse and might just alert owners to potential problems before they occur."
J. Braddock, Australian Veterinary Journal, Volume 90, No 8, August 2012

"Poisonous 2 Pets, by Nicole O’Kane, is an invaluable reference of toxic plants that could save your cat or dog’s life, not to mention potentially huge veterinary bills. The information is clearly set out enabling owners to readily identify dangerous plants categorised into four toxic levels, each identified by colours, green, orange, purple and red found on the edge of each page."
Gail Thomas, Australian Horticulture, April 2011
