Abstract

A successful method of trapping Phasianidae and Turnicidae is outlined and details of Plains-wanderers trapped in this way are given. A brief batanical survey was carried out in the area to establish their preferences for habitat and possibly food. Other species of birds in the area were also recorded. The distr!butjon of Plains-wanderers collated from museum records is given and the apparent change in distribution with time is discussed. Shape and size of bill and the scalloped coloration of the crown is mentioned as a possible means of identifying males, immature males and immature females.
