| To develop classroom resources with which teachers could create innovative and engaging lessons or units of work for Prep to Year 10, based on the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships.
Students could use the resources to investigate and research various aspects of the Championships; from the five aquatic sports, their venues and the athletes competing, to the amazing temporary pool that was 'dropped in' to Rod Laver Arena.
The resources contain:
• background information about the Championships, information about the five sports and the countries participating.
• a range of integrated teaching and learning activities that link to the sports and a range of subject areas
• three student-centred, inquiry-based units of work on the following themes:
• Melbourne
• Penny the Penguin – the mascot of the Championships
• Science and Technology of Aquatics
• "A Fair Go: Ethics and Sport" – a unit of work that introduces ethical values into the decision-making process.
All materials are linked to the Victorian Essential Learning Standards and contain activities for both primary and secondary levels. |
