Students will be able to:
• understand how gold deposits are formed
• apply knowledge of gold formation to evaluate the
  resource potential of areas
• understand the process of searching for gold and
  the high risks involved

This learning object was created to give students the opportunity to understand how gold is formed and where it is often found, and then to explore for gold. The students are placed in the role of working for a large resources company and their brief is to find a viable mine site, within a tight budget of course.

The learning object draws on the knowledge of CSIRO scientists to provide the students with a rich background of how gold is formed and what techniques are used to find it. Then the students can go out in the field and use different survey types to explore for gold. The only have a small budget, so they need to use their surveys carefully.

Learning Federation Supervisor
"Once they had found gold they kept doing it again - they seemed to really enjoy it once they had successfully found gold"

Students
"It takes a lot of money and you have to spend a lot of money on surveys and drilling. You can't find gold everywhere."

"Even though you have facts, it doesn't mean that gold will be where you expect it to be."
