Students will be able to:
• develop a broad understanding of the science
  profession and scientists as people
• recognise the diverse nature of science activity.
Scientists are often engaged in interesting and
challenging work that is valuable to our society
• research and synthesise a wide range of different
data types to answer investigable questions

Science reporter is one of two series of learning objects designed to confront the stereotypical view of a scientist. Multimedia portraits of young scientists were created from interviews which covered their work and their lives outside of work. The objective was to portray each interviewee as a ‘normal’ person with an interesting job rather than a ‘boffin’.

Science reporter features a media browser which allows the user to explore information about each scientist through videos, audio, pictures and text. Audio and video is highly compressed to conform to the client’s stringent download time requirements. The user can not only browse the information, but using the report maker within the object, can collect and edit text and pictures to create a report which can be printed or transferred to the user’s word processor. This is all achieved without any server-side technology.
