The Oribatid Mites CD-ROM includes an interactive key for identifying Australian oribatid mites to family, genus or species levels. The database contains over 80 families, 160 genera and 380 species. Nearly all species are illustrated, as are most of the 280 characters and 950 character states used.
The CD package also has an interactive glossary to help users become familiar with terms used in the classification of oribatid mites. It matches terms with images and allows extensive cross-referencing to other terms, images and citations in the literature. This will have special use in both teaching and self-learning.
