There has never been a more important time to save energy. Not only is it becoming more vital with every passing year to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, but the rising price of energy is adding to the pain of households already hit by the Global Financial Crisis.

The CSIRO Home Energy Saving Handbook shows us exactly what we can all do as individuals to cut our energy use without cutting back on our lifestyles. It is possible to be eco-friendly, save money and be just as comfortable!

In an easy-to-read style, this book offers practical advice on how to measure and reduce your carbon footprint in all aspects of modern living, including:

  • Simple energy-saving tricks around the house
  • Maximising your home's potential for easy heating and cooling
  • Ways to save on shopping and transport
  • Making the most of your garden
  • Tips for building and renovating your home.

CSIRO is at the forefront of research into our impact on the planet and what we can do to help tackle climate change. It is crucial that we each start doing our bit now to help the planet (and our wallets!). The CSIRO Home Energy Saving Handbook is essential reading for the whole family – you will be amazed at how much each of us can do, and how much it can save us.

"As someone familiar with all of the issues discussed, I still found that I enjoyed having some tricky things explained in a slightly different way. Overall, the book is an excellent introduction to being energy smart at home and I recommend it highly."
Stephen Williams, The Herald, Monday October 26, 2009

Dr John Wright's career spans more than 30 years in the public and private sectors. He is currently the executive advisor to CSIRO's sustainable energy partnerships.

Dr Peter Osman has worked for 36 years as an electrical engineer, bio-physicist and project manager in the medical, aerospace and building industries.
