The Zebra Finch is the avian equivalent of the lab rat, and is undoubtedly the most important captive bird model for studying behavioural and evolutionary biology. This Special Issue of Emu, published in memory of Australian ornithologist Richard Zann, reviews research on the Zebra Finch over the past 15 years and confirms the species' value to science.
