Abstract

We present a new method for calibrating a classification of a 3D seismic volume. The classification process employs Kohonen self-organizing maps; the subsequent calibration is performed using one of more sets of borehole logs. The method is described in some detail, and a case-study is presented using data from the North Sea. The method shows promise as an alternative to current techniques for integrating seismic and log data, for seismic reservoir characterization.
