Writing Winning Scientific Proposals

Writing competitive scientific proposals for funding, awards and fellowships is an essential skill for every scientist who wishes to continue in a successful research career. Early career awards from agencies such as the Australian Research Council (ARC), National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and industry-specific research agencies are important sources of funding for early career scientists beginning to develop their own research programs. They provide significant income and prestige to the recipients and their host institutions.

We offer scientific proposal writing workshops that will benefit PhD students nearing completion of the research, post-doctoral researchers, early career researchers or anyone planning to submit a scientific proposal in the next year.

What participants have to say

"The course provided the motivation and time to get pen to paper and start drafting my proposal (which will be important to ensure the proposal is mature enough by the time I submit)"

– Writing Winning Scientific Proposals Participant, Faculty of Science,
Monash University

"Steve conducted the workshop very well. He showed that he was knowledgeable in the subject. He provided relevant examples, and a good mix of lecturing and activities. Steve has great public speaking skills, with a good use of eye contact, confident body language and subtle humour to keep the attention of the audience. Thanks very much for a productive two-day workshop!"

– Writing Winning Scientific Proposals Participant, School of Engineering,
University of Western Sydney

"I am a new starter in CSIRO. Before I started in CSIRO, I was not familiar with grant writing. In my opinion, this workshop is suitable for persons who are writing their first grants."
