Editor-in-Chief - Philip O´Brien
Philip O´Brien completed a Doctoral degree in Molecular Microbiology at the National University of Ireland (Galway) after completing a BSc (Hons) degree at National University of Ireland (Dublin).
He currently teaches biotechnology at Murdoch University in Perth (WA) where he is also a member of the Centre of Excellence for Climate Change Woodland and Forest Health. His published research includes molecular genetics of plant pathogens, genetics and molecular biology of fungal-plant interactions, epidemiology of fungal pathogens, and mechanism of action of phosphite in protecting plants against infection. He has also developed tests for the detection of fungal pathogens in soil and plant debris.
In collaboration with researchers at Murdoch University, University of Western Australia, Western Australian Dept of Conservation and Land Management (DEC), and the University of Adelaide, he have attracted over $3.5m in research funding since 1994, produced 19 undergraduate honours research theses, 6 PhD theses, and over 60 publications. He has previously acted as a Senior Editor of Australasian Plant Pathology (2002-2010) and was appointed to the new Biosecurity Council of Western Australia in April 2009.
