The ¹³C N.M.R. spectra of the cytokinins (1)-(3) and cytokinin glycosides (4)-(11) are reported and complete assignments made by correlation with related compounds and with the aid of deuterium labelling. The results show that previously derived ¹³C N.M.R. correlations on simpler purine derivatives can be extended to the cytokinin glucosides for the determination of the substitution positions on the adenine ring. As well, the structure of the substituents and the stereochemistry of the N-glu-cosyl linkages can be confirmed from ¹³C chemical shift values.
