Abstract

A new metabolite has been detected in the lichen Parmelinopsis schindleri and its chromatographic behaviour shown to be identical to the synthetic tridepside 4-O-methylhiascic acid (6).

The isolation, characterization and total synthesis of 5-O-acetyl-4-O-methylhiascic acid (7), a new tridepside from the lichen Koerberiella wimmeriana is described.
