A review of the genera Carystea Baly and Paralepta Baly (Coleoptera : Chrysomelidae)

BJ Selman

Abstract

The genera Carystea Baly and Paralepta Baly are synonyms, with Carystea the senior synonym. Four new specific synonymies are made and Carystea now contains seven valid species, five of them with new combinations of names. Starycea, gen. nov., is described for six species including three formerly included in Carystea, and two new synonymies are made. Parastarycea, gen, nov., is described for Carystea micans Baly. Carystea sapphira (Fabricius) is found to have been incorrectly described from Australia and is a synonym of Chrysochloa tristis (Fabricius) from Europe.
