Abstract

Five new species of Illiesoperla are described and figured. Descriptive history, additional diagnostic characters and illustrations are given for all previously known species. I, perkinsi McLellan is regarded as a junior synonym of I, mayi (Perkins). I. tasmanica McLellan is considered a senior synonym of Trinotoperla agricola Hynes and transferred to Trinotoperla. The following taxa are recognized: genus and subgenus Illiesoperla McLellan, Illiesoperla (I.) australis (Tillyard), I. (I.) austrosimplex, sp. nov., I. (I.) barbara, sp. nov., I. (I.) brevicauda, sp. nov., I. (I.) carnarvonensis, sp. nov., I. (I.) cerberus Theischinger, I. (I.) echidna, sp. nov., I. (I.)franzeni (Perkins), I. (I.) mayi (Perkins), I. (I.) tropica Theischinger; subgenus Tonyoperla Theischinger, I. (T.) frazieri Theischinger. Three species-groups, considered as monophyletic, are defined and proposed for the subdivision of Illiesoperla, s. str.: australis group, franzeni group, mayi group. A key is presented for the adults of all species, and the mature larvae-as far as distinguishable at the present-are compared.
