Adaptation

Middle secondary students investigate the role adaptation plays in the survival of the fittest. They use data to support their understanding of ways a particular Australian Tiger Snake species has adapted to different prey availability on separate islands. They look at ways in which survival of the fittest is linked to the environment. Students identify and report on possible impacts of climate change on an island population.

Science

Students explore adaptations within a single species using an example of an Australian species of snake adapting to its environment. Students investigate predator-prey relationships.

Mathematics

Students calculate the mode, median and mean of a data set and explain which is the most suitable. They determine if there is a significant difference between the two sets of data and determine if there is a relationship between two variables using a scatter plot.

English

Students view a range of scientific texts and develop an information report about survival of the fittest and what it means.
