Fire

Lower secondary students investigate ways in which Australian animals and plants have adapted to, and depend on, bushfires. They compare how people have responded to bushfire in the past and how land managers use fire today to manage biodiversity and fire risk. Students draw conclusions about suitable methods for managing fire-adapted habitats.

Science

Students are introduced to fire ecology and apply this to understand how fire-prone ecosystems and bushfire risk are managed.

Mathematics

Students analyse and interpret relevant data to report on the common causes of bushfire. They interpret sampling data of small mammals collected over several years before and after that area experienced a major burn. They make conclusions based on the data.

English

Students review, interpret and evaluate a variety of information sources and consider how bushfire information is presented to audiences.
