Abstract

A taxonomic review of the genus Oxycephalusis provided with a key to species. Only three species are recognised in this review:O.piscatorMilne-Edwards, 1830, O.latirostris Claus, 1879 and O.clausi Bovallius, 1887. The systematic limits of these three species are redefined and clarified and all species are illustrated. O.longipes Spandl, 1927 is shown to be the female form of O.latirostris and is consequently synonymised with it. Appendices are provided listing species of indeterminable status (due to loss of type material and inadequate description), species described as Oxycephalusbut since transferred to other genera, and species thought to belong to Oxycephalus in the past.
