Eucalyptus saligna Smith Subsp. botryoides (Smith) Passioura & Ash, Comb. Nov.: a re-assessment of the Eucalyptus saligna – E. Botryoides complex

JA Passioura and JE Ash

Australian Systematic Botany 6(2) 181 - 183

Abstract

Analysis of variation in adult morphology within the E. saligna – E. botryoides complex indicates continuous variation between the taxa across a broad geographic range, while analysis of allozyme data indicates little genetic differentiation. Hence, we propose that the taxa currently recognised as E. saligna Sm. and E. botryoides Sm. should be combined as a single species, E. saligna, and that coastal populations currently described as E. botryoides be recognised as E. saligna subsp. botryoides.
