Description
Australia: State of the Environment 2001 contains a wealth of information suitable for anyone who cares about the environment. For decision makers, there is an extensive range of essential background information and, where appropriate, guidance on options for dealing with issues. For students, its comprehensive treatment of a diverse range of topics makes it invaluable for assignments. Australia: State of the Environment 2001 is the second independent national report on Australia’s environment and heritage.

The report covers every aspect of the environment, from the ocean depths to the stratospheric ozone layer, from Antarctica to living in the big city. It looks at arid Australia and the ways in which we use our scarce water resources, as well as exploring the state of our natural and cultural heritage and the ways in which modern land managers can learn from traditional land management skills.

The CD-ROM, which accompanies the 2001 SoE Main Report, contains the main report and the seven theme reports. The CD can be purchased separately.

The theme reports each use a set of environmental indicators developed to identify trends and chart responses to issues related to our environment.

Also available at the Department of the Environment and Heritage website.

"Everyone should read this report, beginning with our political leaders."
Tim Low, Brisbane, Queensland

Sharon Jones, Distance Education Centre, Victoria
(Geographical Education, Volume 15, 2002)

“This is an important publication which deserves to be read more widely than the target audience of “decision-makers” at all levels of government and in the community”.
Arthur Conacher, Department of Geography, University of Western Australia
