1. The Organisers are CSIRO ABN 41 687 119 230 of Limestone Avenue, Campbell ACT 2612 and Network Ten Pty Ltd ABN 91 052 515 250 of 1 Saunders Street, Pyrmont NSW 2009 2. This competition aims to promote the value of scientific research. Consequently, a condition of entering is that the winner will be available for interviews and will cooperate with the Organisers in gaining media coverage. 3. Information on how to enter form part of the terms and conditions of entry. Participants enter the competition by completing the entry form as found on www.csiro.au/sciencereporter as advertised in the June issue of The Helix magazine throughout the competition period. Entry is open only to students attending Australian Schools between the ages of 10 and 15 years at any time in the calendar year, 2003. Entry is free of charge. 4. Voting is limited to one vote per person. Repeat entries will not be eligible. 5. Eligible participants will be required to complete the entry form by selecting one of the four scientists for whom they are voting and setting out two questions the entrant would like to ask that scientist if selected as the "TV Science Reporter for a Day". One question must be about the scientist's work and the other about the scientist as a person. The scientist to be interviewed will be the one who receives the most eligible votes. A shortlist of potential winners will be chosen from those entries who picked the scientist who receives the most eligible votes and based on the quality of the questions to the scientist. Shortlisted entrants will be required to undergo a brief telephone interview with the judges. The winner will be the person whom the judges consider asked the most creative questions to the scientist and carried out the most creative interview with the judges. 6. Entrants will be required to complete the entry form with their full name, date of birth, postal address, home phone number and school to complete their entry. Incomplete or incomprehensible entries will be ineligible. 7. The competition commences on Monday 2 June 2003 at 09:00 (EST) and concludes on Friday 27 June 2003 at 23:59 (EST). 8. The winner will conduct an interview with the scientist under the supervision and guidance of Network Ten for inclusion in a "Totally Wild" program broadcast on Network Ten. 9. The entrant must be available to travel with a parent/guardian/chaperone (Responsible Adult) approved by the Organisers to the scientist's location at a date of the Organiser's choosing. This date is likely to be in the period 1-18 July 2003. If the winner is not available on the dates selected by the Organisers, another entrant will be selected as the winner. 10. It is a condition of accepting the prize that the
winner and his or her Responsible Adult sign Network Ten's standard
talent
release form for
appearance
on
television . 12. The winner will be notified by telephone as soon as practicable after a decision is made and the winner's name will be published on www.csiro.au/sciencereporter on 1 July 2003 and in the October 2003 issue of The Helix magazine. Chance plays no part in determining the winners. Prizes will be awarded based on creativity as deemed by the judges. 13. To enable the
winner to undertake the television interview with the scientist CSIRO
will pay for: 14. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The prize cannot be transferred or exchanged. The prize cannot be redeemed for cash. 15. If, for any reason, this competition is not capable of running as a result of the actions of an individual which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, the Organisers reserve the right in their sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process. 16. Employees and their immediate families of CSIRO and Network Ten and their associated agencies and companies associated with the competition are not eligible. 17. Neither CSIRO nor Network Ten and their associated agencies will be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but limited to direct or consequential loss) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with the prize except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. 18. If any outside agent or event occurs which naturally changes the result or prevents or hinders its determination, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strikes, the Organisers may in their absolute discretion cancel the competition or recommence it from the start on the same conditions subject to state legislation. 19. All entries become the property of the Organisers and will be used solely for the purpose of conducting this competition. All personal details of the winner will be stored electronically at the offices of the Organisers or its agency acting on its behalf in relation to this competition. A request to access, update or correct any information should be directed to the Organisers. Each of the Organisers privacy policy in relation to treatment of personal information collected can be accessed via each website located at www.csiro.au and www.ten.com.au. A copy may also be obtained by contacting each of the Organisers. 20. This competition has been undertaken
