The Winner

Thank you for taking part in this project. We had a great response and many thoughtful questions.

The scientist who scored the most votes was Philip Valencia, whose work includes studying "Smart Spaces" and "Self-repairing aircraft".

The winning student was Lara Roche of Merewether, near Newcastle, NSW. Lara is 15 years old and attends Merewether High School. She was thrilled to learn that she would be interviewing Philip. The filming of the segment took place on Monday 7 July.

After the interview screened on Totally Wild (at 4pm, Tuesday 19, August 2003), Network Ten ran an online discussion with Philip. He chatted with viewers and answered questions.
