Studies in Translocation I. The Respiration of The Phloem

Abstract

Comparative studies have been made of the respiratory metabolism 'of the vascular and ground tissues of the shoots of four species, Apium graveolens, Oucur· bita pepo, Vitis vinifera, and Verbascum virgatum. As far as examined the respiration of the phloem tissue in each species was qualitatively identical with that of the surrounding ground tissues, and generally similar to that of other plant tissues.
