The following new taxa from Australia are described: Gossypium pilosum from the Kimberleys; Gossypium nelsonii from near Alice Springs; Decaschistia byrnesii from near Darwin and D, byrnesii subsp. lavandulacea from the northern Kimberleys; and Macrostelia grandifolia and M. grandifolia subsp. macilwraithensis from the Cape York Peninsula.

These discoveries constitute the first reports of the genera Decaschistia and Macrostelia from Australia. The former genus, which includes c. 15 species, centres in Indo-China; the latter has hereto- fore been known only from three species endemic to Madagascar.
