Abstract

Isoenzymatic phenotypes on horizontal starch gel zymograms were used to investigate phylogenetic relationships among 20 populations representing four species of the subgenus Glycine (Verdc.). Numerical analysis of the data showed that three of the four species reacted as well-defined entities in keeping with traditional taxonomic grouping. G. canescens populations, on the other hand, did not behave as a homogeneous group. Some populations tended to group with G. clandestina whereas others grouped less readily with G. tomentella.
