Abstract

Chromosome numbers of 106 populations representing 43 taxa of Senecio native to Australia and four African species are reported. Chromosome numbers of 2n = 38, 40, 60, 70, 80, 98, 100, and 120 occur amongst the native taxa. The distribution of ploidy levels within three morphological groups and the abundance of taxa with n = 30 are discussed.
