The photonuclear giant resonance in neon-20

Australian Journal of Physics 19(2) 147 - 155

Abstract

Angular distribution measurements of y-rays from the reaction 19F(p, y)20Ne over the isolated prominent peak in the yield curves of yo and y1 at, 17 • 8 :Me V (liJp = 5 • 2 :\Ie V) excitation energy are reported:

(i) for yo, TV(0) ~ H -(0·14±0·03)P1 - (0·69±0·04)P2,

(ii) fory1, lV(O) ~ 1 (0·08±0·03)P1 + (0·27±0·03)P2.

The difference in the sign of the P2 coefficients shows that, irrespective of the presence of the small P1 coefficients, the peak cannot be represented as a simple isolated 1- resonance.
