A Study of the Polarization of Skylight

Abstract

Results of polarization observations of cloudless daylight skies over Salisbury South Australia, are presented. The measurements were made in a narrow wavelength range centred at 5450 A. When clear atmospheric conditions prevailed, the maximum degree of polarization was approximately O· 65, but this was observed to fall to 0·45 on an xceptionally hazy day.
