The cardiac glycosides of Gomphocarpus fruticosus R.Br. III. Gomphoside

Abstract

The β-anhydroaglycone of gomphoside has been shown to be 2α,3β-dihydroxy-5α-carda-14,20(22)-dienolide and the structure of the glycoside is proposed as a derivative of a 4,6-dideoxyhexosone which has the normal glycosidic link (C_1?) with the 3β-hydroxyl group of the steroid and a hemiketal structure between the carbonyl group (C_2?) of the hexosone and the 2α-hydroxyl group of the aglycone.
