About the Bulletin

Scope

The New South Wales Public Health Bulletin is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles to support the practice of public health. It has a NSW focus, however papers from outside NSW are accepted where the work contributes to the practice of public health within NSW. The Bulletin covers the full range of areas relevant to public health including, but not limited to: assessing the health of populations; promoting health and preventing disease; and protecting the health of populations from threats.

The Bulletin publishes original research, descriptive articles and review articles. Themed issues are a feature. Public health practitioners with suggestions for topics for a themed issue are invited to discuss these with the editor.

The New South Wales Public Health Bulletin is published by CSIRO PUBLISHING on behalf of the Population and Public Health Division of the NSW Ministry of Health.

Aims

The Bulletin´s purpose is to enable the timely communication of information on public health issues and contribute to the development of a well-trained and informed public health workforce in NSW. The Bulletin aims to support public health action by:

  • providing timely information from the surveillance of notifiable communicable diseases
  • publishing peer-reviewed articles that describe the work of the NSW public health workforce
  • showcasing innovative public health work
  • promoting evidence-based public health practice
  • reporting on general public health matters, such as major policy initiatives
  • providing an historical record of communicable diseases in NSW
  • fulfilling a workforce-development role by providing a peer-review forum through which public health workers can publish their work
  • Its core audience includes the public health workforce within NSW Health and throughout NSW. The Bulletin also has a public health readership throughout Australia and overseas.
