Abstract

In a rapidly changing risk–reward environment, this session will bring together senior government ministers, bankers and analysts to discuss how we can continue to invest for the future of Australia’s oil and gas sector and for the Australian economy more widely.

Helen Dalley is a well-respected television journalist, interviewer and podcaster, a Walkley Award winner with several decades’ experience on the Nine Network for 20 years, and more than a decade with Sky News Australia, Sky News Business and APAC. Helen created and hosts the podcast series, Build It. They’ll Come. focusing on Australian entrepreneurs and how they backed themselves and built an empire from scratch. Helen hosted several national primetime political, business and news programs on Sky News, such as Late Agenda with Helen Dalley, The Dalley Edition, News Now, as well as Trading Day and The Final Count on Sky News Business Channel. She also co-anchored coverage of several Federal Election campaigns. At the Nine TV Network, Helen was a senior Reporter, and occasional host on the award-winning Sunday program for 16 years. She won a Walkley Award, Excellence in Broadcast Journalism, in 1999; the 1994 United Nations Media Peace Award; and the prestigious Human Rights Award for Television in 1998. Helen was also a founding member of Channel 9’s Business Sunday as a reporter and was Host of A Current Affair Summer Edition and TODAY on Saturday. Helen is a Non-Executive Director of Aurora Education Foundation, and Patron of Healthy Bones Australia (formerly Osteoporosis Australia), the leading Australian organisation devoted to public health information and initiative to promote healthy bones and prevent fewer life-limiting but avoidable fractures in the Australian community. Helen is a Governor of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation.

Hon Roger Cook MLA is the Deputy Premier of Western Australia. With oversight of the key portfolios of State Development, Jobs and Trade; Tourism; Commerce; and Science, Roger has been a member of the Legislative Assembly since 2008, representing the seat of Kwinana. Prior to entering politics Roger studied Arts and Public Administration at Murdoch University before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations and a Master of Business Administration at Curtin University. He was active in campus politics and established the National Union of Students as its first National President. After completing his studies Roger worked for a number of Federal and State Members of Parliament including Jim McGinty, Stephen Smith and Senator Chris Evans in policy and electorate officer roles. Roger is passionate about Aboriginal issues and served as the Chief Executive Officer of a number of Aboriginal Land Councils, along with a communications role assisting industry and government to reach agreement with Aboriginal Native Title groups. He was previously the National President of Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation. Roger is a strong advocate for health and fitness, competing in regular triathlons, marathons and rides for muscular dystrophy along with the walk for diabetes. He is an avid supporter of the Western Force and Fremantle Dockers. Roger Cook was born and raised in Western Australia. He lives with his wife Carly in Wellard, and has two adult children.

Christina Tonkin is the Managing Director, Corporate Finance for Institutional Banking at ANZ. Corporate Finance comprises Corporate Advisory, Sustainable Finance, Project and Export Finance, Asset and Leveraged Finance, Loans Agency and Debt Execution, Loan Product Governance and Analytics, and Loan Underwriting and Syndications. Corporate Finance also houses the Relationship Coverage teams for our global Resources, Energy and Infrastructure customers. Christina has more than 25 years of experience in specialised finance and loan syndications. Since joining ANZ in 2005 from Westpac Banking Corporation, she has held several roles within the Institutional Banking loans business. Christina holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Geology and Geophysics from Sydney University. She is Vice President on the Executive Committee for Women in Banking and Finance, a former Vice President and Director of the National Stroke Foundation and a member of Chief Executive Women.

Mark Samter has been covering the Energy sector globally since 2006, having covered the sector in London before moving to Australia in 2009. Mark has been the top ranked Energy analyst in the Peter Lee Survey across all three categories (Top 15 Investors, Priority Clients and All Investors) since 2015. Prior to joining MST Marquee in 2018 Mark worked for Credit Suisse, CIMB, CLSA and Citigroup. In addition, Mark worked as an Economist at an economic consultancy in London prior to joining the stockbroking industry. Mark holds a BSc in Economics from The University of Southampton.
