Abstract

The statement Australian oil companies who venture into North America end up losing their shirts is a truism to many. It can be shown that companies who execute strategies based on the fundamental recognition of business, market and risk aspects particular to the mature nature of the US oil industry are successful. Such strategies, and the associated pitfalls are discussed and illustrated using industry norm data.
