Notes on Terminalia L. (Combretaceae) in Papuasia

Abstract

The genus Terminalia as found in Papuasia is reviewed and new information is given for many of the species. Five new species are described: T. avicapitis, T. calogemma, T. eddowesii, T. katikii, T. morobensis; and one new subspecies, T. microcarpa subsp. incana. Four previously recognized species are reduced to synonymy: T. beccarii Exell (= T. canaliculata Exell), T. hypargyrea Laut. & K. Sch. (= T. microcarpa Decne), T. lundquistii Exell, and T. papuana Exell (= T. solomonensis Exell); and one to subspecific rank, T. sogerensis Bak. f. = T. longespicata Sloot. subsp. sogerensis (Bak. f.) Coode.
