Abstract

An integrated classification of the free-living and parasitic Nematoda (Subkingdom Aschelmintha) is given in outline, in which three Classes and seven Subclasses are recognized; Class Rhabditea: Subclasses Rhabditia, Diplogasteria and Tylenchia; Class Enoplea: Subclasses Enoplia and Dorylaimia; Class Chromadorea: Subclasses Chromadoria and Monhystena. Twenty-five Orders are recognized and the major changes are explained. The Order Araeolaimida is provisionally retained and classified to the Family level.
