Mohinudeen Faiz is a research scientist at CSIRO Petroleum and his main interests include coal seam gas systems analyses, microbiology of coal gas reservoirs, CO2 sequestration in coal seams and organic petrology of petroleum source rocks. Faiz graduated with a BSc (Hons) from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 1984. He holds MSc (1990) and PhD (1993) degrees from the University of Wollongong, Australia. He has been working as a geologist for over 20 years in various fields including, ground water exploration, coal seam gas research, CO2 sequestration and petroleum source rocks studies. He is a member of the AAPG, ICCP, PESA and TSOP.

Phil Hendry obtained a PhD in inorganic chemistry from the Australian National University in 1985. This was followed by Post-doctoral studies on Metal-ligand interactions at the University of Bern and the enzymology of DNA replication at the ANU. Since 1990 he has been a research scientist at CSIRO, working in a variety of fields including the chemistry and biology of catalytic RNAs, microbiology and genetics of copper leaching thermophiles, renewable production of industrial commodities, and microbial aspects of coal and petroleum recovery. He has authored and co-authored over 40 publications in reviewed journals, is a past member of the Editorial Board of Nucleic Acids Research. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and a member of the Australian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Ausbiotech.

Dongmei Li received her degree of BSc and MSc degrees from Shanxi Agricultural University, China, and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Adelaide. She worked at the University of Adelaide as a research associate for three years and is currently working in the CSIRO Division of Molecular and Health Technologies as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research interests include molecular biology and microbiology and their applications in the identification of industrial microorganisms.
